Recreation Assistant - TEMPORARY

Assist the Recreation Manager to plan, organize, and direct a program of activities which provides opportunity for entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and expression and fulfills basic psychological, social, and spiritual needs which will be available to all residents of the facility. Minimum Qualifications: High School graduate or equivalent. Meet State and Federal regulations as applicable. Must be able to relate professionally, positively, and cooperatively with residents and employees. Must maintain regular attendance. Must be able to work Friday - Tuesday from 8:30am-5:00pm (Wednesday's and Thursday's off each week). Must meet all local health regulations, pass a post-offer drug test, and pass a post-employment physical exam if required. Must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Essential Job Functions Daily Activities In the absence of the Activities Director, assumes the authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the activity department. Assists the Activities Director to plan, develop, organize and implement the activity programs of the facility. Assist the Activities Director in overseeing the day-to-day activities of residentsin the facility. Assist with the organization and coordination of special outings. Assist with activities both within the facility and outside the facility that stimulate resident interests and well-being. Assist with the transport of residents to and from the activity room as required. Participate in arranging for transportation for outings. Work in conjunction with all departments and staff members to promote the best possible care for the residents. Attend meetings as scheduled or as may be called by the Activities Director. Administrative Assumes authority, responsibility and accountability as appropriate and as assigned by the Activities Director. Maintain current knowledge of departmental and applicable facility policies and procedures. Keep abreast of current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards and make recommendations for changes in policies and procedures as appropriate. Participate in community planning related to the interests of the facility and needs of the residents and families. Work with facility consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as required. Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished. Review departmental complaints and grievances and make written reports to the Activities Director of actions taken. Follow facility established procedures pertaining to complaint/grievance resolution. Review and assist the Activities Director to develop a plan of correction for activity department deficiencies noted during survey inspections. Recommend to the Activities Director the equipment and supply needs of the department. Personnel Functions Participate in the recruitment, of personnel for the department as requested by the Activities Director. Assist the Activities Director to determine departmental staffing requirements necessary to meet the activity department's needs. Assist the Activities Director to assure that appropriate activity programs are being provided to meet resident needs and according to the activity department schedule/ calendar of events. Resident Relatives As assigned, contact relatives for residents' requests and work with relatives concerning residents' concerns and needs. Involve the resident/family in planning objectives and goals for the resident. Ensure awareness of the care plan and its use in providing daily activities for each resident. Encourage resident/family participation in the development and review of the resident plan of care. Encourage Involvement of residents and families in planning facility activity programs. Refer resident/family to appropriate social service personnel when concerns are expressed about facility services and/or response to resident needs. Training/Staff Development Attend and participate in educational activities, in-service training, and staff meetings. May assist the Activities Director to conduct in-service training of other staff members, review their assessments and program goals, and consult with them on selected cases. Maintain a thorough understanding of department policies and procedure and of job position and duties. Record Maintenance Assist the Activities Director to maintain activity related records required by regulations and Medical Records Department. Perform administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submitting such to the facility Activities Director as required. Safety Comply with all Company safety policies, regulations and requirements regarding fire and life safety. Comply with all Company safety policies regulations and requirements involving employee safety and patient safety. This includes but is not limited to: a zero tolerance for harassment and violence; following infection control procedures; following safe patient handling as required with your specific job position. May be required to assist in the evacuation of patients during emergency situations. Meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility. Residents' Rights and Positive Relationships Understand, comply with and promote all rules and regulations regarding residents' rights. Promote positive relationships with residents, visitors, and regulators, to include presenting a professional appearance. Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or Without Aid of Mechanical Devices) : While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to: Sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; ability to read and write; Ability to sit, (greater than 3 hours) stand or walk for extended periods of time. Have a working understanding of English: ability to read and write; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to verbally communicate with residents and others; ability to hear and respond to pages. Use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures. Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and when handling multiple tasks. Other Functions and Responsibilities Must adhere to Code of Conduct and Business Ethics policy, including documentation and reporting responsibilities. Participate in Quality Improvement activities as assigned. Other duties as assigned or needed. Ability to understand and apply training from in-service education and ability to instruct personnel during training education and staff meetings. This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work. This is a position in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and working during inclement weather may be required.
